TLDR: I deleted the file path that connects SurePrep to UltraTax, and somehow this filled up the drive and has made all client files inaccessible, and UltraTax won't even open for anybody. Hey everyone. I'm a new intern at a small accounting firm that mostly does taxes. There are only 5 people who work in the office (including myself) and 3 off-shore tax preparers. Overall, there is 1 CPA and 2 staff accountants, and TaxDome shows 600+ active clients, so it's pretty chaotic. It's actually run r

Awful experience with this company on the firm/outsourcing side. Sharing this information for anybody else that might benefit from this. Feel free to DM or comment with follow-up questions. We are a CPA firm that was using their outsourcing model. We signed up for the start of the 2023 tax season (roughly December 2023). We took advantage of a prepayment discount and bought $60k of credit with them for tax preparation. The pros assigned to us were completely unreliable and incompetent. Many pr

UPDATE PART 2: came in to work this morning to find out that splitting all the info between a bunch of different drives removed access and information from everyone's computers, so all the computers basically crashed and the backups are failing. Almost everyone is back up now, but everything is still a total disaster. Hey everyone. Thanks for all of the helpful comments on my last post (www.reddit.com/r/Accounting/s/PTwkmnO6u6). Someone asked me to post an update, so that's what I'm doing. Ther

We have been using Scan for a while but dont utilize the Autoflow feature. We have tried it multiple times but the staff, as a whole, just cant get it to be efficient. We only keep it for the workpaper setup. It has been about 5 years since our second go around, and I want to try it one more time. Thing is, it is getting extremely pricey. We are paying almost $12k just for the scan, and that does not include any authorizations. I was curious if there are any other softwares that integrate with

Now that 10/15 is behind us, it’s time to take a breath and start thinking about how to make next tax season a little less hectic. We’ve been having a tough time hiring lately and are starting to explore options we wouldn’t have considered just a few years ago—like fully remote staff and automated tax prep solutions. So far, the only automated prep software I’m familiar with is SurePrep. Does anyone have experience using it or recommendations for other similar tools? Is the ROI justified? Open

I’m still in school. I have a 3.91 GPA, 3.84 in my accounting classes. I’m in the midst of my 3rd internship. First one was with a smaller private company doing ap/ar, account reconciliation and miscellaneous projects. Second internship was with a F100 company and my project was essentially cleaning up inactive company cost centers. I am currently at a roughly $1bn revenue PA firm doing 1040 and 1120 tax preparation and did 1065/1120s preparation pre 9/15. Ive been getting roughly 10-15 return c

I haven’t used Sureprep, but have had similar bad faith issues with CCH and other firm vendors. Don’t trust a single word out of salespeople’s mouths at face value. Sales reps should only be relied upon to show features. After that, assume they will lie through their teeth to get the sale, because they will. Only trust what you have in writing in a contract.

Has anyone else used SurePrep's ScanPro or ScanVerify system and been told during the sales pitch that all unused returns purchased would roll over to the next season? for backstory: We were told that unused scans would roll over, so decided to trial run it this year with 250 Pro, and 15 Verify. But we also were implementing 2-3 other new programs at the same time, and since SurePrep required the most training and had the most pushback, we decided to focus on the other programs and backburn

Hi all, just trying to get some best practices. We are moving to using adobe/pdflyer/axcess scan for our 1040 workpapers. Was wondering how others handled signoffs and if they are effective. We moved from Sureprep which had a great signoff system and really not much else. Right now the idea is to use "set status" and color code for preparers and reviews. Some folks will need to bounce between preparer/review status to sign off because they do both. If others have the same issue, was th

Wow, crazy that you're wasting money on Scan and not using Autoflow, which is the best part of the software. I don't believe your staff are unable to make it efficient, I think they're unwilling to try to make it efficient and failed leadership to get them to buy in. You'll face the same problem if you try to switch to SurePrep, which is a superior system but only if you use it as intended.
